The Sebastopol Police Department currently has eleven Police Explorers. The Explorer Program is an excellent opportunity for young people between the ages of fourteen and twenty-one to gain experience in Law Enforcement.

Essential Duties

The Sebastopol Police Department's Explorers assist with basic police department activities such as clerical work, dispatching, finger printing, traffic and parking control, as well as special functions such as the Apple Blossom Parade and Public Safety Day. They are also able to ride along with officers on patrol and assist them with some of their duties. The focus of the Explorer Program is to allow young people to interact with the members of the Police Department as well as the community as they consider a possible career in Law Enforcement.

Requirements

Training

Each year there are Law Enforcement Explorer Conferences throughout the nation. Explorers are able to take part in classes and training scenarios put on by Police Agencies such as the F.B.I., D.E.A., and other nationally recognized Law Enforcement Agencies.

The Explorers also provide bad guy man power in trainning scenarios, for the Santa Rosa Police and Ranger Academys.

During the meetings Explorers learn basic techniques such as DUI investigation, arrest control techniques, report writing, and other basic law enforcement duties.
